Types of Operating Windows
The majority of operable windows slide either horizontally or vertically; alternatively, casement and awning windows (both of which are hinged) swing out.

Geometric Shapes
Most windows are square or rectangular, but arched, triangular, trapezoidal and other geometric configurations are available as well.

Projection Windows
Instead of being installed in line with the perimeter of a structure, certain specialty windows project out beyond the plane of the exterior wall.

Garden Windows
Garden windows, most often installed in kitchens, have the effect of making a room seem larger, particularly when countertop material is run out into the base of the unit. These windows come with a glass roof, side venting panels, and a shelf for plants or knick-knacks.

Bay / Bow Windows
Unlike Garden Windows which project out at 90 degrees, Bay and Bow Windows are angled. A Bay will normally have a center Picture Window and two Casement or Vertical Sliding "Flankers." Bow Windows, generally used in very wide openings, are made up of four or more separate panels and don’t extend out as far from the exterior wall.
